Joe Azelby was the CEO of JP Morgan’s Global Real Assets Investment Group of from 1998-2017. He led the transformation of a modest U.S. real estate investment business into a market leading, global real assets platform spanning private and public real estate, infrastructure and maritime/transport investments across the US, Europe, Asia and Australia. The Global Real Assets Group had 500 investment professionals managing over $95 billion in assets spanning office buildings, shopping malls, apartments, warehouses, airports, toll roads, hospitals, wind farms, solar fields, water, gas and electric utilities and other operating assets. The platform served over 700 institutional clients such as public, corporate and Taft Hartley pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies and endowments and foundations. In 2012, Joe conceptualized and co-authored “The Realization” white paper that correctly predicted and explained the increasing allocations to real asset investments.
Most recently, Joe spent fourteen months at Apollo Global Management as Senior Partner and Head of Real Assets and a member of the firm’s management committee. During his tenure he reshaped Apollo’s real estate organization and explored both investment and platform opportunities in the infrastructure and agriculture sectors.
Joe is a graduate of Harvard College and has an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
